To make your own homemade vanilla extract for an easy last minute teacher gift, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Vanilla Beans – We like these ones you can get from Amazon.
- Glass bottles – These swing top ones are really cute and they come with a funnel to help not make a mess or these with screw on tops are also a good option.
- Any brand of vodka
To assemble the extract, open 3-4 vanilla bean pods. Do this by laying the pod flat on a cutting board, hold down with your finger on one end of the pod and using the tip of your knife slice down away from your finger. Once it is sliced open place the whole thing into the bottle. Next, fill it up with vodka and close the lid tightly. Extract will need to be placed in a cool, dry place for 3 months.
Wait!!! 3 months?? I thought you said I could have this done in time for Teacher Appreciation Week!
That’s the best part – they will be. Simply print the card linked below (you can download a copy here) and it can be gifted this week as a very thoughtful (and not at all last minute) gift to your child’s teacher!
